My Happiness, My Rules: The beauty of inner peace and joy
It can be easy to lose yourself to the views and opinions of other people. In a world that demands for us to change ourselves to make a prettier picture, it’s understandable how things like beauty and skincare can become taxing instead of relaxing. So how do we reclaim the joy of doing these self-care activities?
For Dabin Woo, it’s about doing it for yourself and no one else.
Discovering the joy of skincareDabin is a 21-year-old content creator for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. Well-travelled, she’s a South Korean who stayed in Bulgaria for 9 years and now lives in the Netherlands. Dabin’s skincare journey started as early as 7 years old at the behest of her mother. She was not really into it then, however, and this continued years into the future. Dabin shared that she just couldn’t be bothered then. |

“My skin then was really good but I never really got into the skincare thing, because I just couldn’t be bothered. However, in Middle School I started having a crush on this boy in my class and since then I started wearing makeup. With puberty and excessive makeup my skin started deteriorating.” Many of Dabin’s peers made fun of her acne and the scars they left, which urged Dabin to cake on more makeup without proper skincare—and so the cycle continued. This unfortunately led to low self-esteem and insecurity that lasted years. Dabin, however, was not the type of person to just leave things be. So slow and steady, she stopped using make-up every day and started to invest in keeping her skin healthy through skincare. This time, for herself. |
"Lesson learned: NEVER EVER do something that isn’t you to impress a boy, or anyone." |

“Skincare is the beginning and the ending to my every day. It just feels illegal to not go a day without it at this point. I have learned that investing in yourself is the best investment you can make. My skin still struggles from time to time, but it’s okay. No one’s skin is perfect and we all just have to come in peace with it and take care of it. I am very happy with where my skin is right now.” |
Dabin’s K-beauty Skincare Corner
We asked Dabin for tips and advice for people who want to try K-beauty! She left us with these key messages:
- Starting skincare might be very bothersome but once it becomes a routine, you will actually enjoy doing this to you, for you! If you really want to start investing into yourself it takes commitment. Just put a challenge to yourself and start ticking off each goal one by one. Without even realizing skincare is part of your daily life. Maybe try a product that has a pretty packaging, maybe try a product that you came across on social media. Find the fun in your skincare.
- If you already use skincare daily, but still struggle with your skincare journey, please do yourself a favour and research! Find out what skin type you are, what are the problems you are struggling with/wanting to fix, and the ingredients that you need. TikTok viral products, hyped up products those might be good but it’s more important to adapt your skincare routine to you.

We also asked Dabin what she thinks is the most important step when it comes to skincare, and she answered:
I am not sure about what’s the most important step, I think skincare is more about consistency and the right ingredients. But my favourite step is SERUMS. I love, love, love serums and I love using all kinds of serums.

On Confidence and Self-Love
I know this sounds very cliche but being beautiful is not about your looks. Keep going, and keep believing in yourself because at the end you need to be your biggest supporter. Once you really start believing in yourself and you gain confidence, you will literally shine. You will literally radiate light around you. The first step to being beautiful is believing in yourself and loving yourself. Love you guys.
